Volkswagen up! Turbo coming in May with 100 HP
Brazilian media is reporting Volkswagen will finally introduce a production version of the GT up! concept.
It was September 2011 at the Frankfurt Motor Show where Volkswagen introduced five up! concepts and one of them was a more potent GT version. It had 100 HP (73.5 kW) wrapped around in a body weighing only approximately 900 kg (1,984 lbs) and although promising, Volkswagen didn't released a production version in the years to come.
That's about to change as according to a report from Brazil the model will actually see the light of production day as the up! Turbo in May. Its heart and soul will be a Polo facelift-sourced three-cylinder, 1.0 TSI turbocharged gasoline engine locally produced in Sao Paulo. The motor which will be compatible with ethanol is set to produce 100 HP transferred to the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox.
