Opel Corsa OPC breaks cover with 207 HP

Opel has officially taken the wraps off the Corsa OPC.

 

The design should be very familiar to those who have seen the very revealing spy shots from September 2014 with a prototype featuring a more aggressive body with beefier bumpers, larger side skirts and the usual flash blue paint used only on OPC models. Also noticeable are the enlarged air intakes with aluminum framing while in front of the hood there's a subtle scoop providing the hot hatch with an "additional optical dash of athleticism."

 

Moving at the back, Opel is offering a subtle spoiler attached to the trunk lid or an optional larger spoiler that increased downforce on the rear axle. It rides on 17-inch wheels shod in Michelin 215/45 R17 tires and comes with an OPC-optimized braking system with 308mm front discs, along with a dual exhaust system from Remus with a diffuser.

 

Power is provided by a four-cylinder, 1.6-liter Turbo ECOTEC engine delivering 207 HP (152 kW) and 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) of torque channeled to the front axle through a six-speed manual gearbox featuring short ratios. This hardware setup grants the Corsa OPC with a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 6.8 seconds before topping out at 143 mph (230 km/h). Despite being seriously quick, the model manages to remain quite frugal as it will consume only 7.5 liters / 100 km (37.6 mpg UK or 31.3 mpg US) with corresponding CO2 emissions of 174 g/km.

 

At an additional cost, customers can equip their Corsa OPC with an optional Performance Package bringing a Drexel mechanical multi-disc differential lock, 18-inch rims wrapped around in Michelin tires along with a stiffer chassis setup and a Brembo braking system with 330mm front discs.

 

As far as the interior is concerned, the Opel Corsa OPC boasts Recaro performance seats with side support, flat-bottomed steering wheel covered in leather, as well as an OPC gear knob, sport pedals and the company’s IntelliLink infotainment system.

 

The 2015 Opel Corsa OPC will make its public debut next month at the Geneva Motor Show.
