Renault Value Up concept detailed, will underpin future small models

British media has managed to find out juicy details about a new concept from Renault called "Value Up."

 

Although very important for the company's future, Renault has apparently decided not to publicly reveal the Value Up concept which weighs only 830 kg (1,829 lbs) thanks to a sturdy yet lightweight construction making use of materials like bamboo. The vehicle is 3.8 meters long so it's longer than the Twingo but shorter than the Clio.

 

Power comes from a tiny three-cylinder 1.0-liter gasoline engine which enables the concept to emit only 100 g/km of CO2 and there are also plans for an even greener variant with a plug-in hybrid setup resulting in CO2 emissions of just 45 g/km.

 

Although we don't have any images, Autocar says the styling is close to a production car, featuring big windows that stretch into the doors while the rear doors are hinged at the back to grant a wider opening angle. Step inside and there bamboo door panels, seat bases and floors while the driver and passengers sit on benches.

 

Most buttons and knobs have been replaced by a huge touchscreen spreading across the entire dashboard and consisting of dual LCD screens replacing the instrument dials along with two 76cm x 17cm screens for the rest of the dashboard.

 

The report goes on to specify the Renault Value Up was developed in the same vein as the Citroen C4 Cactus, a cheap to make basic car with a low curb weight and built using cost-saving techniques.
