McLaren entry-level model spied for the first time

McLaren's upcoming entry-level model is making its spy photo debut ahead of a 2015 launch.

 

Part of the newly established “Sports Series”, the model will be slotted below the 650S and was previously known as the "P13" by its internal codename. It will be sold both as a coupe and a spider while more potent versions should follow to narrow the gap until the 625C and 650S duo.

 

Upon first glance it might look like its more powerful siblings but in reality the car has a different design and looks significantly smaller. The front of the prototype appears to sit very low while the back of the car has been overhauled and packs interestingly shaped taillights and a massive diffuser. The side profile shows significantly narrower vents, carbon fiber mirrors while the butterfly doors have been retained.

 

Power will like come from the familiar V8 twin-turbo 3.8-liter engine but it will be detuned to less than 600 HP (441 kW) in order to avoid a clash with the 625 Club.

 

Promising to be a "pure McLaren", the company's entry-level model will be unveiled in the second quarter of 2015.
