Honda FCV concept unveiled in Japan, production version coming 2016
Honda has introduced the fuel cell vehicle (FCV) concept at home in Japan, prior to the arrival of a production version set for late March 2016.
The vehicle represents an evolution of the FCEV concept shown at last year's Los Angeles Auto Show and according to Honda it acts as a successor of the FCX Clarity but with a 33 percent smaller fuel-cell stack and an output of more than 100 kW. It has an output density of 3.1 kW / L and according to Honda the overall performance has increased by around 60 percent.
Thanks to the 70 MPa high-pressure hydrogen tank, the vehicle promises to provide a maximum range of more than 700 km (435 miles) at cruising speeds. Once the tank is depleted, a full refill will take around three minutes which is just about the same as a regular gasoline / diesel refill.
There's also a newly developed external power feeding function which can be combined with an external power feeding device transforming the Honda FCV concept into a mobile power plant generating and providing electricity whenever necessary, like in an emergency situation such as a disaster.
