Upcoming Toyota sports car could cost more than the Corvette

We've heard plenty about BMW's version of their jointly-developed sports car but new details are starting to emerge about Toyota's variant.

 

According to one of Car & Driver's sources, the upcoming model will likely cost more than the Chevrolet Corvette. Considering the 2015 Corvette starts at $54,995 - including a $995 destination and handling charge - the upcoming sports car could be one of the most expensive Toyota-branded coupes ever created.

 

Unfortunately, the source declined to say anything else about the car but the companies have confirmed the cars are on track and have moved to the concept stage. That's not much to go on but rumors have suggested the BMW variant could be offered with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that has outputs of 190 bhp (141 kW), 245 bhp (182 kW) and 270 bhp (201 kW). There's could also be a high-performance Z5 M which could use a turbocharged six-cylinder engine with roughly 425 bhp (317 kW).
