2015 Chevrolet Impala unveiled, gains a new start/stop system

The Chevrolet Impala is off to a strong start and the company is hoping to keep that momentum going by announcing a start/stop system will be standard equipment on 2015 models with the 2.5-liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine that develops 195 bhp (145 kW) and 253 Nm (187 lb-ft) of torque.

 

Designed to maximize fuel efficiency, the start/stop system will enable the sedan to return an EPA-estimated 22 mpg city / 31 mpg highway / 25 mpg combined. This is relatively minor increase as the 2014 model was rated at 21 mpg city / 31 mpg highway / 25 mpg combined.

 

To ensure the changes are barely noticeable to the driver, engineers installed new motor mounts that "provide the greatest isolation possible from the cabin." The engine has also been equipped with a heavy-duty starter and advanced algorithms which consider the "cabin temperature, humidity, battery charge and other factors when deciding if the engine should come to a stop."

 

The 2015 Chevrolet Impala will go on sale this summer and pricing starts at $27,735 (including an $825 destination charge).
