据外媒报道，宝马考虑为下一代i8的混动系统搭载四缸引擎。目前，下一代宝马i8已经有很多自相矛盾的传言，有人说新车将采用纯电动驱动，还有人表示，新车将搭载动力更强劲混动系统。现行版搭载一台三缸汽油引擎，总计输出功率362马力，扭矩420磅-英尺（约合570牛米）。而宝马博客表示，宝马高管更倾向于提供动力更强劲的混动系统。预计新车将搭载2.0升四缸引擎，功率300马力，另外还有电机提供额外动力。早先有传言称，纯电动版i8功率约为750马力，续航里程300英里（约合480公里）。下一代i8仍处于可行性研究阶段，如果最终方案获批，新车预计将于2022年或更晚推出。

BMW is reportedly considering a four-cylinder engine for the next-generation i8's hybrid powertrain.

The i8 has been subject to several seemingly contradictory rumors, some pointing to an all-electric future and others hinting at a more powerful hybrid system. The current model integrates a three-cylinder gasoline engine, with a total hybrid output of 362 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.

BMW Blog suggests the company's leadership is now leaning toward a more powerful hybrid setup. The report cites previous rumors pointing to a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 300 horsepower, before adding in extra power from electric motors.

Earlier rumors raised the possibility of a pure battery-powered i8 with around 750 horsepower and a range of 300 miles.

The next-generation i8 project is said to be still in the feasibility stage. If approved, a redesigned model is unlikely to arrive until 2022 or later.
