2020 Cadillac Escalade Could Have Three Engines, Including Plug-In
The current Cadillac Escalade has been on the market since 2014, making it relatively ancient on the automotive timeline. But a new version is coming; Cadillac promises an updated Escalade by 2020. If we're to believe reports, not only will the SUV have three rows, but it will have three engine options, too.
According to the website Cadillac Society, the 2020 Escalade will offer two new engine options alongside its current V8. The same 6.2-liter small block should carry over but expect a modest power increase over its current output. The Escalade currently produces 420 horsepower (313 kilowatts) and 460 pound-feet (621 Newton-meters) of torque. The first new engine will likely be Cadillac's 4.2-liter twin-turbo V8 ripped from the CT6 V-Sport. In its most powerful application, it produces 550 hp (410 kW) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque. Caddie could theoretically give the Escalade the same power output and apply a V-Sport badge to the backside. That new V8 will come paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
For its second new powertrain, the Escalade will adopt a plug-in hybrid option. Cadillac already has a plug-in CT6, which pairs two electric motors to a turbocharged four-cylinder engine to produce 335 hp (259 kW). Some of that same technology should carry over to the large SUV.
The new SUV will get a thorough redesign – both inside and out – with cues borrowed from the Escala concept. But it won't be the only new SUV on the docket; Cadillac will roll out the new XT4 to dealers this year, introduce an updated XT5, and next year show off a new three-row XT6.
