2019 Subaru WRX STI Revealed With 310 Horsepower

The rumors were true – Subaru is giving the WRX STI slightly more power for the upcoming 2019MY by dialing the turbocharged 2.5-liter boxer engine to 310 horsepower. It’s an extra 5 hp over the outgoing version and it now matches the output of the WRX STI Type RA special edition of which just 500 cars were ever made.

 

The minor bump in hp is granted by a new air intake as well as a high-flow performance exhaust. In addition, Subaru has further tweaked the ECU and has installed stronger pistons. Another hardware revision is represented by the six-speed manual gearbox benefiting from an updated third gear ratio to deliver quicker acceleration. Interested? If you’re willing to settle for the regular WRX, Subaru is asking $27,195 for the base model and in return you’ll get the familiar 2.0-liter engine with 268 hp on tap. The model year change is bringing a standard 6.5-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration.
