AMG's next-gen 45 models getting "well over" 400 hp

Mercedes-Benz has started the lengthy process of replacing its lineup of entry-level models. We saw the all-new A-Class break cover earlier this year, and we expect to discover the replacements for the CLA and the GLA in the coming months. All three models will spawn 45-badged, AMG-tuned models in the not-too-distant future.

 

Power for all three will come from an evolution of the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine found in today's 45 models. It will be extensively re-engineered, according to Autocar, and it will deliver "well over" 400 horsepower. The magazine accurately points out the four-cylinder will boast over 200 horsepower per liter of displacement, a figure higher than the one posted by the McLaren Senna.

 

While earlier rumors claimed the 45 models would go hybrid, AMG boss Tobias Moers told Autocar that's not the case. The brand is working on plug-in hybrid powertrains but it will first introduce the technology on its bigger models.
