2019 Hyundai Veloster Starts At $18,500, Turbo Goes For $22,900
The 2019 Hyundai Veloster starts arriving at dealers in the United States in the second quarter of 2018, and the company is now announcing pricing for the sporty hatchback. The 2019 model starts at $18,500, plus $885 destination, which is $400 more than the base cost of the previous generation.
The base 2019 Veloster comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder running on the Atkinson cycle that produces 147 horsepower (110 kilowatts) and 132 pound-feet (179 Newton-meters). It runs through either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic with three driving modes: Normal, Sport, and Smart. Getting a turbocharged Veloster requires spending at least $22,900 plus destination. The 1.6-liter four-cylinder produces 201 hp (150 kW) and 195 lb-ft (264 Nm). A temporary overboost pushes the torque figure to 202 lb-ft (274 Nm). It comes stock with a six-speed manual and getting the seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox requires dropping at least $25,400.
All versions of the 2019 Veloster come with an expansive suite of standard tech. Systems like torque vectoring, which brakes the inside front wheel during hard corning, makes the hatchback a better handling machine. They also feature Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist that begins braking automatically to avoid an imminent collision. Lane Keep Assist helps make long-distance cruising easier. Further driver assists are also available, like Blind-Spot Collision Warning and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning. If buyers spec the optional LED headlights, they come with High Beam Assist.
Choosing the Veloster Turbo gets drivers quicker-ratio power steering and an eight-speaker Infinity Premium stereo. Adaptive cruise control is an option for it, too.
Inside, the Veloster comes standard with a seven-inch infotainment display but buyers can upgrade to an eight-inch screen. Plus, there's an optional head-up display that projects onto an eight-inch transparent piece behind the instrument panel. The base 2.0-liter and Turbo R-Spec trim has cloth upholstery. A mix of cloth and leather is inside the 2.0 Premium and Turbo models, and the range-topping Turbo Ultimate has full leather with a two-tone pattern. Folks wanting a more powerful Veloster have to wait for the end of the year for the N variant's arrival. It uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 275 hp (205 kW) and 260 lb-ft (353 Nm) and is exclusively available with a six-speed manual. Hyundai doesn't yet have pricing for it, but a figure above the $28,150 Turbo Ultimate with the dual-clutch gearbox seems likely.
