Mercedes-Benz confirms EQ S electric flagship sedan by 2022
Mercedes-Benz has confirmed plans to sell a purely battery-powered S-Class among its first wave of all-electric vehicles.
Known as the EQ S, the full-size sedan will be targeted at the Tesla Model S. It will be one of 10 EVs planned for launch by 2022, Daimler chief Dieter Zetsche said at a presentation attended by Bloomberg.
The electric luxury sedan is expected to feature unique styling to help distinguish the EV from its traditionally powered ancestor. A designer promised short overhangs and huge wheelbases.
The German automaker plans to bring an even larger number of vehicles to market with plug-in hybrid powertrains and 48-volt mild hybrid technology.
"All vehicles will be electrified," Zetsche promised.
