Lexus shows 2019 ES ahead of Beijing debut

Lexus has released the first official images of its next-generation ES sedan. The 2019 Lexus ES will make its world debut at the upcoming Beijing Motor Show.

 

The 2019 ES makes a bold design departure from the comparatively sedate ES currently sitting in Lexus showrooms. The new ES wears and expressive version of Lexus' signature spindle grills and its bodywork is far more flowing than today's model.

 

The 2019 Lexus ES will be largely based on the 2019 Toyota Avalon. Like the Avalon, the ES will ride on Toyota's new front-wheel drive TNGA platform. The 2019 ES will be produced alongside the Avalon in Georgetown, Kentucky.

 

Specs have not been announced, but the standard ES should come equipped with a 3.5L V6 making around 300 horsepower. A new eight-speed automatic will shift power to the car's front wheels. A hybrid model is also expected and is likely to use a 2.5L four-cylinder engine mated to an electric motor.

 

Sales of the ES are still falling, but Lexus is hoping the ES's redesign will reverse that trend. Look for the 2019 ES to arrive in dealer showrooms by the end of the year.
