Refreshed C-Class Coupe And Cabriolet Bring High-Tech Tweaks To NY
Following the launch of the refreshed C-Class sedan at the Geneva Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz premieres the updated Coupe and Cabriolet variants at the New York Auto Show, including the sporty C43 AMG versions.
Styling tweaks follow the four-door C-Class. Standard models now receive a single-bar grille, and a two-bar piece denotes the C43 trim. At the rear, the AMG versions have a more prominent diffuser and circular exhaust tips. The changes for for the refreshed coupe and convertible are largely functional, rather than aesthetic For example, the redesigned headlights don't look too different, but they come standard with full LED illumination. Inside, all models now come with 10.25-inch infotainment screen, and the system features smartphone integration. Buyers can upgrade to a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and an available multi-function steering wheel supports swipes as the controls.
Driver safety gets a big upgrade from the available Intelligent Drive assistance tech from the S-Class. The system includes adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, land change assist, active steering assist, automatic emergency braking, and automatic evasive steering. The models even support car-to-x communications that allows them to receive and transmit warning messages about the driving conditions.
The C300 Coupe and Cabriolet use a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that now produces 255 horsepower (190 kilowatts) – 14 hp (10 kW) more than before – and 273 pound-feet (370 Newton-meters). A nine-speed automatic sends the output to the rear or to the available 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. Mercedes estimates the Coupe reaches 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in 5.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 130 mph (209 kph). The convertible hits 60 mph in 6.1 seconds and has the same top speed.
The C43 AMG models feature a biturbo 3.0-liter V6 that makes 385 hp (287 kW )– a boost of 23 hp – and 384 lb-ft (520 Nm). It also has a nine-speed auto and comes standard with 4Matic. Mercedes estimates the C43 Coupe gets to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and 4.6 seconds for the Cabrio. Both have a 130 mph top speed.
Like the sedan, the C-Class Coupe and Cabriolet will be available in the U.S. in late 2018. Prices will arrive closer to introduction.
