2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Refresh Get HP Boost, Tech Upgrade
The current-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class entered production for the 2015 model year. That’s not ancient by any means, but the platform is due for a mid-cycle refresh and that has officially arrived with the 2019 C-Class sedan. The car will make its first public appearance in a few weeks at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, but Mercedes-Benz has pulled the camouflage a bit early so we can get familiar with the changes.
On the outside, those changes are subtle but noticeable. The AMG-Line single-bar diamond grille up front is now standard, flanked with new LED headlights that are also standard equipment. The front fascia is slightly tweaked with horizontal fins in the side air intakes, and the rear fascia also gets a slight redesign with the addition of a diffuser element down low. As with the headlights, taillights also receive a minor design change and an LED upgrade. A fresh set of 17-inch twin five-spoke wheels are standard, and Mercedes will offer up a couple new paint options: Mojave Silver Metallic and Emerald Green Metallic.
Physical changes inside aren’t as noticeable, unless you opt for the new 12.3-inch digital instrument display over the standard cluster. A new steering wheel is offered with touch control buttons that respond to swiping motions, allowing drivers to control functions on both the instrument cluster and infotainment system without letting go of the wheel. Speaking of the infotainment screen, a new 10.25-inch screen is now available as an option over the standard 7-inch display. Smartphone integration is now standard, and a new interior color combination of Magma Gray with black is offered.
Power still comes from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, but in the new C-Class the engine is massaged to make a bit more power. 255 horsepower (190 kilowatts) is now on tap, shifted through the familiar 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic.
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan will officially debut in March at the Geneva Motor Show, though it won’t be on sale in the U.S. late 2018. Pricing will be announced at a later date.
