Chicago LIVE: 2018 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid
Hyundai has revealed a redesigned Sonata Hybrid and Sonata Plug-in Hybrid at the Chicago Auto Show.Both hybrids essentially carry over the same exterior, interior and chassis changes introduced with the mid-cycle update to the non-hybrid Sonata.
The facelift introduces a new front fascia, grille and hood, with swept LED headlights that shift the beam when turning. Out back, the sedan gets a redesigned lower bumper, new trunklid and new-look taillights.
Hyundai says the steering system, anti-roll bar and rear suspension have been tweaked for more responsive handling without sacrificing ride comfort.
On the inside, the refreshed hybrids have received a new instrument panel center stack, upgraded infotainment system, wireless phone charging and USB charging ports. Safety and assistance upgrades include automatic emergency braking, lane change assist and standard blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert.
The Sonata Hybrid is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission and a 51-horsepower electric motor, delivering a total system power of 193 ponies. The plug-in hybrid adds a 9.8-kilowatt-hour battery pack for an estimated all-electric range of up to 27 miles.
