New Kia Rio GT Line Looks Like A Hot Hatch, But It's Not
Now that the Detroit Auto Show is behind us, automakers are slowly beginning to turn their attention towards the next major event: the Geneva Motor Show in March. Now Kia is eager to unveil the sporty GT Line specification for its Rio supermini.
As with the other members of the continuously growing GT Line family (Picanto, Sportage, Optima, Sorento), the new Rio GT Line is basically a visual pack giving the B-segment hatchback a sportier exterior appearance. It gets those cool now familiar four-point “ice cube” LED fog lights and rides on 17-inch alloy wheels exclusive to this version. Kia has also added a few glossy black accents here and there, along with a chrome window trim and twin exhaust tips.
There’s not much to say about the interior as it has been essentially carried over from the lesser Rio models, but with a black synthetic leather and cloth upholstery (with grey stitching), metallic accents, and a carbon fiber look for the dashboard. In addition, the “GT Line” badge adorns the flat-bottomed steering wheel clad in leather.
You’ll be able to get the new Kia Rio GT Line with the exact same engines available for the other trim levels. That means buyers will be able to pick from naturally aspirated 1.25- and 1.4-liter gasoline units or the newer three-cylinder turbocharged unit. The latter has a 1.0-liter displacement and produces 118 hp and 171 Newton-meters (126 pound-feet) of torque delivered to the wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. An optional seven-speed, dual-clutch will be available beginning with the third quarter of 2018.
