2019 Jeep Cherokee Gets A More Traditional Face, Roomier Interior
The refreshed 2019 Jeep Cherokee has made its first official appearance at the Detroit auto show.
The mid-cycle facelift introduces a more traditional styling, ditching the current model's controversial split headlights in favor of larger primary housings and small round fog lamps that blend into the bumper.
Overall, the revamped Cherokee follows the Compass in creating a three-model lineup carrying a familiar design language long held by the Grand Cherokee.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has added a new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, delivering 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The new inline-four boasts essentially equal horsepower and more torque than the naturally aspirated V6, while the Tigershark 2.4-liter mill also carries over from the current model.
Cherokee sales were down by 18 percent in the first 11 months of the year despite ongoing growth in the SUV segment and just four years on the market. The Grand Cherokee, meanwhile, posted a 15-percent jump through November as the fourth-generation model approaches eight years of production.
