Lexus LF-1 Limitless Concept Could Hint At All-New LX
The Lexus LF-1 Limitless concept debuting today is for the moment officially only a concept, there are reasons to believe it serves as a preview for an all-new LX. After all, Lexus does say in the official press release its new concept has the “potential to shape the future of a flagship luxury crossover.”
In typical Lexus fashion, the LF-1 Limitless adopts a bold exterior design and was actually styled in collaboration with CALTY Design Research in California – the same people involved in the FT-1 project previewing the new Supra. Like you would come to expect from a concept, it rides on a huge set of 22-inch wheels and adopts a sharp appearance in line with the company’s recent models. At 5014 millimeters (197.4 inches) long, 1986 mm (78.2 inches) wide, and 1605 mm (63.2 inches) tall, the concept is slightly longer and wider than the LX while riding substantially lower. Its wheelbase stretches at 2974 mm (117.1 inches), which is marginally shorter than the LX’s.
The spindle grille may be a bit too outlandish and the split rear spoiler is ...interesting, but overall the LF-1 Limitless has a sleek design and an appealing roofline that hopefully won’t be altered too much on its way to the assembly line. Futuristic headlights and taillights contribute to the concept’s high-tech look, while the flush door handles and the absence of conventional side mirrors further contribute to the body’s modern sheet metal.
Stepping inside, it’s the typical minimalist cabin with very few conventional controls. A fully digital driver’s display is accompanied by a wide infotainment screen and there are several touch-sensitive buttons to fiddle with the available settings. 4D navigation system has been implemented, along with more screens incorporated into the backrests of the front seats as part of the rear entertainment system.
The only piece of the puzzle that’s missing is the identity of the powertrain. However, Lexus does mention the concept lives up to its name by offering limitless engine possibilities. The company sees the LF-1 with a combustion gasoline engine, a hybrid / plug-in hybrid setup, as a pure EV, and also with a fuel cell hydrogen arrangement.
