Two-Row Lexus LX 570 Carries Fewer Passengers To Fit More Stuff
Lexus will give buyers the option of sacrificing occupant capacity to boost cargo volume by launching a new variant of the 2018 LX 570 with seating for five people. The change boosts interior hauling capacity by 15 percent. The two-row model’s price also falls to $86,175 (after $1,195 destination), versus $92,370 for the existing version.
The two-row 2018 LX 570 can carry 50.5 cubic feet of cargo behind the middle row of seats, versus 44.7 cubic feet from the existing variant. A roof rack also comes standard on the new five-passenger model.
Lexus will load the LX 570 with standard equipment, and the only options will be the interior and exterior colors. The big SUV comes with driver assistance tech like parking assist, blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert, and the Lexus Safety System+ suite. A surround-view camera system makes the LX easier to maneuver at low speeds by providing a better idea of what’s going on around its ample body.
According to Lexus, the idea to strip a row of seats out of the LX came from customers who said that they weren’t using it. The owners told the company that they would have preferred a boost in cargo capacity rather than the room for more occupants. Some even requested more space to haul their dogs. The change also means an easier time for folks that haul large sports equipment like bicycles.
The two-row LX 570 uses the same powertrain as its three-row counterpart. A 5.7-liter V8 makes 383 horsepower (286 kilowatts) and 403 pound-feet (546 Newton-meters) of torque. An eight-speed automatic gearbox with a selectable low-range routes it through a four-wheel-drive system with a Torsen limited-slip center differential. Owners can tow up to 7,000 pounds (3,175 kilograms), too. The LX 570 remains a capable off-roader, too, thanks to systems like Adaptive Variable Suspension for tweaking the damping to match the conditions.
