2018 Mazda6 Gets 250 HP Turbo Treatment, New Interior For LA Debut

Mazda has revealed the refreshed 2018 Mazda6, due to be fully revealed at the Los Angeles auto show.

The flagship sedan has been updated twice already since entering its latest generation in 2012. The latest revision is said to focus on premium materials, introducing new powertrains and the Japanese automaker's latest safety and assistance technologies.

The new turbocharged Skyactiv-G 2.5T engine has trickled down from its debut in the CX-9. It retains the crossover's 250-horsepower max output on 93-octane gas (downrated to just 227 on 87) and 310lb-ft of torque. It is paired exclusively to an automatic transmission.

The Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter gasoline engine carries over from the 2017 model year, though it benefits from a cylinder deactivation system to improve efficiency in certain circumstances. The six-speed manual remains available for 2.5L models.

Designers added a new high-grade interior configuration with Japanese sen wood, the most significant change among a broader range of slight adjustments and refinements.

Mazda's radar cruise control has been improved to further reduce the driver workload. The system now automatically brakes to a halt and takes off again in congested traffic.
